Students Gather at American Corner Beersheva (ACB) for a Discussion on Women's Empowerment:

An enthusiastic group of twenty 10th grade students from Mekif Rager in the South of Israel, participated in a program on June 12 at the American Corner Beersheva.  Deputy Consul General Rhonda Watson addressed the group and opened her presentation with a brief introduction to her childhoood years when African Americans were expected to stay in their place, and lived lives of prejudice and discrimination which tainted every opportunity for growth and success.  In commemoration of the 50th anniversay of the civil rights movment, the presentation was followed by the screening of the HBO-produced video, "Mighty Times - The Legacy of Rosa Parks" which provided powerful historical insights into the civil rights movement as a major force for change.  The audience witnessed how one individual with will and determination can make a difference, without resorting to violence or terror.
